  • Assistant Professor Sarah Jo Peterson teaches History and Theory of Urban Planning, Planning Management, Transportation and Land Development, Environmental Planning, and Rural and Regional Planning.  She has a  Ph.D. in history from Yale University, a B.S. in mathematics and history and an M.S. in Urban and Regional Planning both from the University of Wisconsin.   Dr. Peterson worked professionally for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. E-mail: sjpeterson@ou.edu

  • Professor Emeritus Charles Robert Goins, Professor of Emeritus,  Prof. Goins is updating his previously published Atlas of Oklahoma.   His credentials include: Master of Regional & City Planning 1960, B. Arch., 1955 University of Oklahoma.

  • Professor Richard Marshment, Graduate Liaison, Director, teaches Public Finance, Urban and Regional Analysis, Urban Economics, Transportation Planning, and Transportation Economics.  Dr. Marshment's current research includes the economic effects of highway bypasses and high speed rail service.  His credentials include:  Ph.D. in Urban Planning 1981, University of Washington; M.   • Assistant Professor Charles G. Warnken teaches courses in housing and community development, economic development, land use planning/law, and currently directs RCPL's graduate studio program.  Charles received his Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the Florida State University (2003), holds an MPA degree from the University of Louisville (1996) and a bachelors degree in Political Science from the University of Wyoming (1992).  He is currently engaged in action-oriented research creating a feasibility study to identify development opportunities for a number of brownfield sites located in Oklahoma City’s inner-city neighborhoods.  Charles has recently partnered with the City of Oklahoma City and the US EPA to create a state-wide training program for planners, municipal officials and real estate professionals interested in the process of brownfield redevelopment.   • AssOCIATE Professor, DIRECTOR, Guoqiang Shen teaches in the areas of Urban Physical Planning, Urban Design, Research Methods, GIS Applications, Transportation, and Real Estate.  Dr. Shen's research interests are in using GIS and quantitative methods for spatial analysis in transportation, housing, and land use issues.  He is also interested in urban design and planning in USA and in China.   • Associate Professor Thomas Schurch teaches in the areas of Urban Design and Landscape Architecture. His courses include Small Town Planning Studio and Urban Design Theory. In addition to teaching planning courses, Dr. Schurch teaches courses in the Division of Landscape Architecture and serves as Director of the Division.  His credentials include PhD. in Urban Design and Planning, University of Washington, 1989; Master of Landscape Architecture, California State Polytechnic University at Pomona, 1978; Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Art, United States International University, Buckinghamshire, England, 1971.   • Associate Professor JOHN M. DUGAN, AICP,  Associate Professor of the Practice.  John Dugan is a professional planning practitioner and educator with more than 30 years experience as planning director or principal planner for Oklahoma City, Norfolk, VA, Washington DC, Aurora, Colorado, Memphis, TN, and the counties of Sonoma in California and Loudoun in Virginia. Mr. Dugan has also taught graduate planning classes at George Washington University, Old Dominion University, Memphis State University, and Kansas State University. Mr. Dugan holds a Master of City Planning Degree from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and Kennedy School of Government. He is currently Director of Planning for Oklahoma City.

    Recently, Mr. Dugan helped organize and lead a team of planners to Beijing, China. The group was invited by the Beijing Municipal Planning Commission to assess and discuss the draft Comprehensive Plan for the growth of Beijing over the next decade to a population approaching 20 million. He also lectured at Tsinghua University’s School of Architecture on the planning for the Monumental Core of Washington, DC.  Last summer Mr. Dugan attended the three week Senior Executive Institute at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, an internationally acclaimed public policy forum.
